And Suddenly It All Became So Clear

I finally understand why Donnie Darko had to die. Or at least I think I do. Great movie.

Well... For whatever reason, when the plane engine falls through the wormhole and crashes through the house the first time, Donnie is not there. No harm no foul. The airplane company compensates the Darko's and everything is good. But when that same airplane engine falls from the sky a second time now there are two of the same engine causing some paradox in which time gets sucked into a loop. You'll see hints throughout the movie of the characters suffering from some serious deja-vu. If Donnie sacrifices himself, then the airplane company is forced to not just compensate the family, but inspect all their planes as well. And what do they find? Another engine that isn't suitable to fly. They remove that engine, it doesn't fall through a wormhole, time loop ends. Donnie had to die to save the universe from looping. It makes sense to me.
